Palestina Dividida

“Mukata’ al Awsal- divided”; una película dirigida por Ashraf al Mash-harawi comienza con una declaración ‘”¡Gaza-Jericó; primero!”. Ha sido usada en foros políticos “, para enfatizar la unión geográfica entre Cisjordania y la Franja de Gaza, y para acentuar aún más el destino compartido de ambas partes de Palestina que han  estado bajo ocupación desde 1967. Sin embargo, la realidad geopolítica cuenta otra historia  mientras niega esta declaración y afirma que la patria palestina está muy “dividida”. Esta película decifra esta expresión y su connotación en el contexto palestino al narrar la historia de Mohammad Al-Hajran, una familia palestina que reside en la Franja de Gaza. El carnet de identidad palestino del padre fue emitido en Jericó mientras que el carnet de identidad palestino de la madre fue emitido en la Franja de Gaza. Todo empezó cuando él decidió registrar el nacimiento de su hija en Jericó. Las fuerzas israelíes hicieron imposible para que él cruzara  directamente de Gaza a Jericó, a solo dos horas de distancia en automóvil. ¡Él entoncés tuvo que tomar  un gran desvío viajando desde Gaza a Egipto a Jordania para finalizar en Jericó! ¡Un viaje doméstico de Gaza a Jericó, ambas partes de la Palestina histórica, un viaje de dos horas se convirtió en un viaje internacional, simplemente debido a la ocupación!

La película establece un contexto histórico acerca del conflicto territorial en Palestina desde una perspectiva “política”,  y las resoluciones relevantes que las Naciones Unidas ha emitido al respecto.  Además ilumina una larga lista de violaciones israelíes de estas resoluciones, la primera siendo la violación de desmantelar dos áreas de Palestina y entregar su administración a gobiernos vecinos. Lo desconcertante es que estas áreas inhibidas  palestinas estan adyacentes a la tierra Palestina ocupada por Israel en 1948. La primera área llegó a ser conocida como Cisjordania y fue entregada a la administración jordana. Mientras que la segunda área llegó a ser conocida como la Franja de Gaza y fue entregada a la administración egipcia.  La película ilumina todas las violaciones incluyendo la ocupación israelí del resto de Palestina en 1967, sometiendo así a Cisjordania y la Franja de Gaza al control militar directo.

Después de la ocupación total de 1967, el sistema de identificación que prevaleció en los territorios ocupados era discriminatorio, mientras tanto los carnets de identidad emitidos a palestinos en la Franja de Gaza, Cisjordania, Jerusalén y la histórica Palestina eran completamente diferentes entre sí. Esto era una de las medidas deliberadas tomadas por la ocupación israelí para obligar a los palestinos a que se dirigieran a sus autoridades para emitir permisos incluyendo permisos de salida para viajar.

La película continúa narrando las realidades históricas y sociales entre Cisjordania y la Franja de Gaza.  Además narra las negociaciones del Acuerdo de la Declaración de Principios también conocido como Los Acuerdos de Oslo, y cómo Israel abortó este acuerdo convirtiéndolo en disposiciones de seguridad que promueven la ocupación y sirven para intensificar la confiscación de tierras palestinas en favor de los asentamientos y sus pobladores a expensas del sustento palestino. Por lo tanto, por la lógica del poder Israel puede imponer un cierre de seguridad en cualquier ciudad palestina y por lo tanto convertirla en en una unidad completamente aislada.

Con ese fin, comparando las fronteras de la histórica Palestina a las fronteras de Palestina después de la Declaración de Principios también conocida como “Oslo”, establece los cimientos para comprender completamente la realidad dispersa, dividida y separada de la geográfia de palestina hoy en día.

La película “Mukata’ al Awsal” esta basada en una serie de entrevistas para narrar la historia completa de la división de Palestina, tanto geográfica y culturalmente.  Además muestra la historia de Mohammad Al Hajran y su familia. Aunque Mohammad reside en Gaza la documentación oficial de sus niños es problemática ya que algunos están registrados en Gaza y otros están registrados en Jericó. Aún si Gaza y Jericó estan cerca el uno del otro él no puede tener acceso a Jericó a nivel doméstico al menos que obtenga un permiso israelí.  La película aborda con precisión la delicada realidad geográfica de ciudades palestinas hoy en día, después del establecimiento de la Autoridad Palestina.

Lo que descubrirás cuando la veas:

  • La realidad de la división geográfica entre Cisjordania y la Franja de Gaza, y cómo esta segregación, ejecutada por Israel, fue formada.

Desde hace décadas, la ocupación ha creado deliberadamente una realidad diferente para cada área, aún cuando ambas son partes constituyentes de la histórica palestina.

PALESTINE DIVIDED

“Mukata’ al Awsal – divided”; a film directed by Ashraf al Mash-harawi starts with playing  a statement ‘’Gaza-Jericho; first!”. Ithas been used in political forums “, to emphasize the geographical unity among the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, and further accentuate the shared destiny of both parts of Palestine which have been under occupation since 1967. Yet, the geopolitical reality tells another story whereas it negates this statement and affirms that the Palestinian homeland is very much “divided”. This film unravels this expression and its connotation in the Palestinian context through narrating the story about Mohammad Al-Hajran, a Palestinian family residing in the Gaza Strip. The father’s palestinian I.D. card was issued in Jericho whereas the mother’s palestinian I.D. was issued in the Gaza Strip. It all started  when he decided to register his daughter’s birth in Jericho.The Israeli forces made it impossible for him to cross directly from Gaza to Jericho, just a two hour drive away. He then had to take quite a long detour traveling from Gaza to Egypt to Jordan then finally to Jericho! A domestic trip from Gaza to Jericho, both parts of historical Palestine, a two hour drive was made international, simply due to the occupation!

The film sets a historical context about the land conflict in Palestine from a “political” perspective, and the relevant UN resolutions issued thereof. It further sheds the light on a long list of Israeli violations of these resolutions, the first being the violation of stripping out two areas of Palestine and handing their administration down to neighboring governments. What’s baffling is that these Palestinian inhibited areas are right adjacent to the Palestinian land occupied by Israel in 1948. The first area came to be known as the West Bank and was handed to the Jordanian administration. While the second area came to be known as the Gaza Strip and was handed to the Egyptian administration. The film sheds a light on all the violations including Israel’s occupation of the rest of Palestine in 1967, thus subjecting the West Bank and the Gaza Strip to direct military control.

After full occupation of 1967, the I.D. system that prevailed in the occupied territories was discriminatory, whereas the I.D’s issued to Palestinians in each of the Gaza Strip, the West Bank, Jerusalem and historical Palestine was completely different from one another. This was one of many deliberate measures taken by the Israeli occupation to force the Palestinians to address its authorities in order to issue permits including exit permits for travelling.

The film continues to narrate the historical and social realities among the West Bank and the Gaza Strip. It further narrates the negotiations on the Declaration of Principles’ Agreement, also known as the Oslo Accords, and how Israel aborted this agreement by turning it instead into security provisions that instill the occupation and further serve to intensify the confiscation of Palestinian land in favor of colonies and settlers at the expense of Palestinian livelihood. Hence, by the logic of power Israel gets to impose a security closure on any Palestinian city and thus turn it into completely isolated unit.

To that end, comparing the borders of historical Palestine to the borders of Palestine after the Declaration of Principles aka “Oslo”, lays the foundation to fully comprehend the reality of the scattered, divided, and detached geography of palestine nowadays.

The film “Mukata’ al Awsal” is based on a series of interviews to narrate the full story of the division of Palestine both geographically and culturally. It further showcases the story of Mohammad Al Hajran and his family. Although Mohammad resides in Gaza the official documentation of his children is a problematic since some are registered in Gaza and others are registered in Jericho. Although in Gaza and Jericho are in close proximity of each other he cannot access Jericho domestically unless he obtains an Israeli permit. The film accurately tackled he delicate geographical reality of Palestinian cities nowadays, after the establishment of the Palestinian Authority.
